"Native American Portraits"
A new series of original paintings by Ron Lesser

Acclaimed for his almost photographic renditions of the battles of the Civil War, Ron Lesser's new collection, "Native American Portraits ", draws its inspiration from the definitive glass plate photographs of the legendary photographer Edward S. Curtis. Lauded for his craft and vision, the images created by him are the best visual record in existence of the first Americans who roamed our great West over 150 years ago.

In the spirit of these 19th century historic documents Mr. Lesser, with a keen eye for detail and immense talent, has reinvented these masterworks. Painting with warm light and subtle color, as if bathed in the light of a nineteenth century kerosene lantern, Mr. Lesser brings these frozen sepia images to life with a level of detail rivaled only by the photograph itself. Created in traditional oils, each original painting is a masterpiece inviting the viewer to “meet” one of the key figures of the Apache, Assiniboin, Crow, Cheyenne, Nez Perce, etc.

No other contemporary painter captures the essence of the great figures of our country's West like Ron Lesser. Trained in the classical tradition of William Merritt Chase, John Singer Sargent, and Gilbert Stuart, Ron Lesser captures not only the physical likeness of the ancestors of Americas first inhabitants, but also the man (or woman) behind the portrait.

All portraits are oil on wood panel. Portraits vary in size. Call or e-mail for commissions and new portraits now available. If you are interested in a work that is marked SOLD - please contact us.
